ISO Survey 2005 Impacts Global Management Systems Standards
As more global supply chains in export trade and business process outsourcing in China participated, China showed strong performance in both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. In terms of increases, it came in within the top 10 countries. Besides, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are essential for service sectors in the global economy, more than 30% certificates of the total for both standards went to the service sectors.
Due to the transition period for ISO 14001, the 2004 version was not completed on 15 May 2006 as survey work was not concluded until the end of 2005. The initial full picture will only be available in the 2006 survey. For the second consecutive year, the survey includes certification data on two ISO standards, ISO/TS 16949:2002 and ISO 13485:2003 and the requirements of ISO 9001 and sector-specific requirements.
ISO 9001:2000 Quality management systems
Up to end of December 2005, no less than 776,608 ISO 9001 certificates were issued in 161 countries. This showed an increase of 18% over the previous year. Breakdown of awarded certifications: 143,823 in Mainland China, 3,449 in Hong Kong and 83 in Macau.
ISO 14001 Environmental management systems
Up to end of December 2005, no less than 111,162 ISO 14001 certificates (1996 and 2004 versions consolidated) were issued in 138 countries. 2005 represented an increase of 24% over 2004, when the total was 89,937 in 127 countries. Breakdown of awarded certificates: 12,683 in Mainland China, 385 in Hong Kong and 15 in Macau.
ISO/TS 16946:2002 Quality management systems - Particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2000 for automotive production and relevant service part organizations
Up to end of December 2005, no less than 17,047 ISO/TS 16949 certificates were issued in 80 countries. Of those, 2,151 certificates were awarded in Mainland China and 30 in Hong Kong.
ISO 13485:2003 Medical devices - Quality management systems
Up to end of December 2005, no less than 5,065 ISO 13485 certificates were issued in 67 countries. This was an increase of 111% over the previous year. Breakdown: 21 in Mainland China and15 in Hong Kong.
