Watch & Clock Fair Features More Than 720 Exhibitors

5 September 2012 – The world's largest watch-and-clock show, the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, opened today with more than 720 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions taking part.

The fair, which runs until 9 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), welcomes 73 buying missions representing more than 3,000 buyers from 64 countries and regions. Officiating guests at today's opening ceremony included Guest of Honour Raymond Tam, Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs.

The show features group pavilions from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, along with special zones for brand-name timepieces.

Time Zones
Brand Name Gallery is showcasing a record 125 brands from 14 countries and regions, among them: Swiss watch company Alexis Garin; Hush Puppies, which is rolling out its 10th anniversary watch; Hong Kong's Memorigin, which is introducing its tourbillon watches; and local brand Zerone, which is unveiling its "Zerone and 5+1" collection. The zone opens to the public on the last day of the fair, offering watch parades, tourbillon demonstrations and such sessions as "Fashion Watches, Mix & Match," by fashion designer Cecilia Yau, and "Finest Watches to Watch," by Ashley Lung, watch critic and chief editor of The Watch Magazine.

The fair's World Brand Piazza, sponsored by Prince Jewellery & Watch Company, features rare timepieces from 12 major brands: A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Chopard, Franck Muller, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Ulysse Nardin. A Blancpain Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants, selling for more than HK$16 million, is among the exceptional watches on display. In addition, the fair's Pageant of Eternity offers outstanding timepieces from more than 260 exhibitors.

Special Events
The fair presents a variety of special activities, including cocktail receptions, conferences, product launch events, watch parades, lucky draws and seminars. The latter includes "The True Value of Prestigious Watchmaking," a Prince Jewelry-sponsored seminar featuring Philip Ng, founder of Watch Report magazine.

Representatives from global watch associations discuss the state of the industry this afternoon at the Hong Kong International Watch Forum. And the Asian Watch Conference, 6 September, will offer the insights of Shang Jiangguang, Vice President and General Manager, Zhuhai Rossini Watch Industry Ltd.

Designer Spotlight
The 28 winners and finalists of the 29th Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition are on display, in the Hall 1D Concourse, throughout the fair.

The Watch and Clock Fair is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and the Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd.

Clocking Growth
Hong Kong is the world's second-largest watch and clock exporter by value, exporting US$5.3 billion (HK$41.3 billion) worth of timepieces, parts and components from January to July 2012, up 13.5 per cent over the same period last year.
