Two Fairs Open Doors to New Business at AsiaWorld-Expo
Building Materials and Sports Goods in the Spotlight
27 October 2010 – Some 370 companies have set up booths at the AsiaWorld-Expo to display their latest products for buyers visiting Sports Source Asia (SSA) which runs until 29 October and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair which will conclude on 30 October.

Organized by MMI Asia Pte Ltd and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the SSA fair has more than 190 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. It also features group pavilions from Korea and Taiwan, as well as Ningbo and Zhejiang provinces on the Chinese mainland. SSA also will also present a Premium Zone with major sporting brands including ERKE sportswear, Speedo digital equipment, Komda bicycles and more. A new feature of the fair this year will be a new Fitness Zone.
The event also features two sports parades and a seminar on Sportswear Design Trends Forecasts for Fall/Winter 2011/12 by Creative Trends Services. Visitors will be able to attend a seminar about the SizeChina research project, and how results of the Hong Kong-organised study can be applied to design of sportswear and equipment’.
Hong Kong’s exports of sporting goods jumped 6.7 per cent to HK$26.6 billion in the first eight months of 2010, with the top five export destinations the United States, Japan, the Chinese mainland, Germany and the United Kingdom. Hong Kong’s imports of sporting goods also rose by 14 per cent over the same period in 2009.
Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair
In its fifth edition, the HKTDC International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair provides an opportunity for suppliers to tap into the growing demand for new infrastructure in emerging economies across the globe. The event features nearly 180 exhibitors and introduces new specialised areas such as the Green Building Zone and the Testing, Inspection and Certification Zone.
In parallel with the new zones, the Fair will hold a seminar on Green Building Certification and Designs in conjunction with the Hong Kong Green Building Council. The use of the latest green technologies is now a major consideration for construction companies and property developers. The Green Building Zone will present opportunities for new business partnerships to be formed in this arena.
Hong Kong’s exports of building materials, including hardware, jumped 40 per cent to HK$71.8 billion in the first eight months of 2010. The top five export markets were the Chinese mainland, the US, Japan, Germany and Korea. Hong Kong’s imports of building materials also went up by 42 per cent over the same period in 2009.
Concurrently with SSA and the building fair, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) will host the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition). A free shuttle bus will run between the AsiaWorld-Expo and the Wan Chai venue.
