Three International Fairs Open Today at HKCEC
Wine, Eyewear and Medical Device Offerings on Show
4 November 2009 – More than 1,100 exhibitors from all over the world are in Hong Kong this week, showcasing their products and services at three major trade fairs. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, the HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair, and the inaugural HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair continue through 6 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Boasting more than 520 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions, this year’s wine fair has more than doubled last year’s inaugural wine fair exhibitor numbers and area. Exhibitors come from six continents and include France, this year’s Partner Country. Fair highlights include the first Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition, run in partnership with the prestigious, London-based International Wine & Spirit Competition. With some 1,300 entries, the event is Asia’s largest.
The fair offers more than 50 special activities, including wine auctions, wine-tasting sessions, master classes and seminars. A wine-industry conference, “Hong Kong – Asian Wine Hub,” will feature such speakers as Michel Bettane, CEO of Bettane & Desseauve and a noted wine critic, James Miles, Director of London’s Liv-ex Ltd, and David Wrigley, the International Development Director of the United Kingdom’s Wine & Spirit Education Trust. A wine MBA programme Collaboration Agreement Signing Ceremony will also take place. The Asia Top Sommelier Summit features Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World, and Élyse Lambert, Best Sommelier of the Americas, together with sommeliers and industry leaders.
The fair opens to the public on 6 November, a chance for consumers to taste a world of wine, meet industry players and browse the Wine Gallery, featuring everything from wine glasses and books to oak barrels.
The 17th edition of the Optical Fair, co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, has attracted more than 530 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions. The fair’s new Brand Name Gallery promotes more than 60 international brand-name collections, including a range of international brands in its Visionaries of Style – Enjoy Your Vision in Life Pavilion. The fair’s Retail & Shop Design, Equipment and Technology Section spotlights a variety of point-of-sale equipment and technology and packaging services.
Other fair highlights include the seventh Hong Kong Optometric Conference and the 17th Asia-Pacific Optometric Congress, featuring international experts discussing future industry developments in Asia. A range of topical seminars will also take place, including the 5 November “Luxury Optical Retailing in the Chinese Mainland Market,” with Puyi Optical CEO Jeffery Yau revealing his company’s retail brand-building and management strategies on the mainland. In addition, top designers from Germany and Italy speak tomorrow morning at the “Latest Product Design Trends” seminar.
More than 150 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions are taking in the inaugural Medical Devices and Supplies Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). Fair highlights include two major seminars: “The Future of Dentistry in the Digital World – Considerations for Patients Benefit,” which takes place this morning; and this afternoon’s “Healthcare Reform in China – Implications for the Medical Devices Market.” The fair also hosts the 14th meeting of the Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP), the first time the AHWP has met in Hong Kong. The AHWP is working to unify the region’s regulations for medical devices, cutting the time and effort needed to get the latest medical products to the market.
