Sun Shines on Fashion Party
Birthday Bash for Young Fashion Designers' Contest

January 5, 2007 - "Let the Sunshine In," the theme of this evening's Young Designers Alumni Club fashion party, celebrates fashion's stylish evolution from the 1970s to the present. A fashion show spotlighting collections from the club's 30 members will highlight the festive event.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), the party salutes the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest. The fashion show, led by Vanessa Yeung, Amanda Strang, Rosemary V and other top models, comprises four collections blending eastern and western influences over the past four decades. The 1970s fashion, inspired by the hippie culture and kung fu trends, displays a carefree style in the use of headbands and long, beaded necklaces. The 1980s look shimmers with gold highlights, reflecting the rise of the Orient in world fashion and China's open door policy. The 1990s collection parades the elegant, feminine style of oriental beauty, while the contemporary creations mix hip hop and traditional Chinese motifs.

Participating designers are ex-winners and finalists of the contest. They include: Phyllis Chan, Rachel Chan, Mandy Cheng, Tommy Cheung, Vic Cheung, Chow Tan Tan, Ho Ho Tak, Lee Ho, Anita Huen, Effie Hung, Pat Kong, Mandy Lau, Sara Law, Hin Lee, Loyg Lee, Wilson Lee, Timbee Lo, Lok Lai Ming, Kenko Ma, Baldwin Pui, Otto Tang, Siuting Tsang, Doris Tsui, Ben Yan, Cecilia Yau, Heidi Yeung, Yeung Shiu Cheung, Jacky Wong, Jaco Wong and Pansy Wong.

"Love from Hong Kong," a lifestyle exhibition presented by Style Hong Kong magazine, opened today in conjunction with the party. The exhibition, curated by Eric Kot, spotlights Hong Kong's design excellence. Designers involved include Douglas Young, a founder of G.O.D.; Eric Fung, interior designer of Tint Living Ltd; Ketchup, musician and filmmaker; Martin Ksohoh, creator of R.M.C. jeans; S K Lam, designer of allrightsreserved; and members of the YD Alumni Club. Featured earlier at Tokyo Design Week, the exhibition runs to January 11 at Open Piazza 2, Times Square, 1 Matheson Street, Causeway Bay. Opening hours: 10:00am-10:00pm.
