TDC Chairman Receives Prestigious Service Medal

March 29, 2007 - Mr Peter Woo, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), was honoured today by the Korean government for his many contributions to the promotion of trade and business between Korea and Hong Kong.

The Consul General of Korea in Hong Kong, Mr Seok Tong Youn, presented the prestigious Industrial Service Medal to Mr Woo on behalf of the President of the Republic of Korea, Mr Roh Moo-hyun, in a ceremony at the Korean Consulate General.

Mr Seok said Mr Woo had made invaluable contributions to the success of the Korea-Hong Kong Business Roundtable and trade promotion between Korea and Hong Kong. The Consul General noted that Mr Woo was the only foreigner to receive the award, which was announced at Korea's 43rd Annual Trade Day last November.

Mr Woo, who also heads the Hong Kong side of the Hong Kong-Korea Business Roundtable, has spearheaded a drive to promote closer business ties with Korea since his appointment as Chairman of the TDC in 2000. He has introduced a business-to-business and sector-specific approach to the business roundtable. This has resulted in closer co-operation between Korean and Hong Kong businesses in areas such as ICT, electronics, environmental protection, logistics and digital entertainment.

The presentation ceremony today was witnessed by Mr Ko Kwang Sok, Senior Executive Director of Korea International Trade Association and members of the Korean business community in Hong Kong and by Mr Fred Lam, the TDC's Executive Director.
