More Services Promotion a "Welcome Development",Says TDC
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council today welcomed the Financial Secretary's call for more emphasis to be placed on promotion of Hong Kong's services trade.
"For a number of years the TDC has been promoting key services which are closely integrated with manufacturing and trade, such as design." said the TDC Chairman, Dr Victor Fung.
"Now we will step up and broaden our programme to cover a wider range of services and develop more specialised activities to meet their specific needs."
Dr Fung added that the Council would work hand-in-hand with services industries in developing detailed programmes and activities. It will form a comprehensive network of services advisory committees with representatives from the Hong Kong Coalition of Service Industries and a variety of sector-specific associations.
"What we do specifically for services will be on top of our existing programme of more than 300 projects around the world each year for merchandise trade, which will be undiminished."
"In fact, there will be many synergies and the approach will be in line with overall developments in Hong Kong's economy."
Dr Fung said the Council would deploy its marketing expertise, three decades of trade promotion experience and its global network of more than 50 offices, in expanding its programme for services promotion.
"We look forward to making an even greater contribution to Hong Kong's economy and the territory's future as a regional business hub," he said.
