Malaysian Designer Melinda Looi Won the Best Collection Award
at the Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designers Show
Malaysian designer Melinda Looi won the "Best Collection Award" of the "Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designer Show '2000", the major highlight of the on-going Hong Kong Fashion Week which runs until this Thursday (January 20) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Looi's collection elaborated on the theme 'Tales', with inspiration drawn from nature and traditional cultures. Feminine designs highlighted by pleats and natural beads were trimmed from silk, cotton knit, leather and lycra. Green and brown colour set the overall tone, with a dash of red, black and silver grey.
As the winner of the "Best Collection Award", Looi received a trophy from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Fashion Club; a round trip business class ticket to and from Hong Kong to any destination sponsored by the Cathay Pacific Airways Limited; a complimentary four-night stay for two sponsored by the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel; and a Daniel Swarovski Objects "Ricci Candlestick" sponsored by Swarovski Hong Kong Limited.
For the fourth consecutive years, the "Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designer Show" has been the highlight of the Fall/Winter Hong Kong Fashion Week in converging up-and-coming designers from the Asia Pacific. This year, the 15 young designers were from Australia, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and West Coast of the United States.
