London Dinner Celebrates 10 Years of HKSAR
Annual Trade Development Council Event Largest Yet

October 16, 2007 - More than 400 business leaders and senior government officials from the United Kingdom and Hong Kong attended the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's (HKTDC's) annual London dinner, October 15.

This year's social event celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and was hosted by Jack So, Chairman of the HKTDC. The elegant evening drew the largest attendance in the history of the dinner, which was first held in 1983.

Hong Kong's Financial Secretary John Tsang was Hong Kong guest of honour. UK guests of honour were Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs the Rt Hon David Miliband MP, and Permanent Under Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Sir Peter Ricketts.

In his address, the Foreign Secretary said that Hong Kong and the UK share a commitment to partnership. He noted that many of the UK companies with a presence in Hong Kong were represented at the dinner, adding that 70 per cent of Hong Kong's European investment is with the UK. "That is a partnership not just of equals but a partnership of respect, and a partnership that speaks to a focus on the future as well as on the past," Mr Miliband added.

Evening entertainment included performances by renowned erhu player Teresa Wong and mask-change artist Anna Chau.

The dinner marked the beginning of a week-long programme of events organised by the HKTDC in the UK. Hong Kong: Building Your Business in China seminars take place in London, Coventry and Bristol, October 16-18.
