15 April 2009 – Exhibitors from all over the world are doing business this week in Hong Kong, with the concurrent showing of three major trade fairs, the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), the HKTDC International ICT Expo and the HKTDC International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition). The three shows, together featuring 3,600 exhibition booths, opened 13 April and continue through tomorrow at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the three fairs are the first to be held in the newly completed HKCEC expansion. "The new expansion is a milestone for the exhibition industry and will further reinforce Hong Kong's position as Asia's trade fair capital," said Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of the HKTDC. "The expansion's additional space means that some of our fairs could become the world's largest events of their kind in the future." The HKCEC expansion adds 42 per cent more exhibition space - an additional 19,400 square metres to the HKCEC, and can accommodate about 1,000 standard exhibition booths.

Held annually in October, the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair is the largest lighting exhibition in Asia. This year's new spring edition fills a gap in the calendar for lighting sourcing, enabling buyers to assess market trends and place orders for the latest products in time for the busy autumn/winter season. Exhibits range from crystal lighting, green lighting and holiday lighting, to outdoor lighting, lighting parts and accessories. Many countries and regions now encourage the use of energy-efficient lighting, and their lighting industries are producing more and more low-energy and environmentally friendly products. The fair's exhibits cater to this trend, with the focus on environmental protection, greater energy efficiency and longer lifetime in products such as solar lights and LED lamps.

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair is the biggest electronics event in Asia and the second biggest in the world. Together with the concurrent International ICT Expo, it has established itself as a key international trading platform for the electronics industry. This year's electronics fair features a number of special product zones, including: In-Vehicle Electronics & GPS, Electronic Gaming, Audio Visual, Home Appliances, Digital Imaging and Healthcare Electronics. The fair's Hall of Fame is one of its brightest attractions, with 214 brand names from 177 companies, including Coby, Desay, Goodway, Haier, Hyundai, TCL and Tunbow.

The International ICT Expo presents state-of-the-art software solutions and services in six major theme zones: E-logistics & Retail Technologies, Enterprise Solutions, Home-grown Innovations, IT Outsourcing, Network & Mobility and Trade Related Services. In addition, four new zones have been added this year to meet the buying needs of specific industries: Computer & Peripherals, Digitainment & Multimedia, IT Security and Storage Technologies. Exhibitors this year include such major international companies as Cisco, IBM, Kingdee and Nortel.

The three fairs also feature seminars spotlighting the latest industry issues and market developments.
