Hong Kong Houseware Fair Continues Through Thursday
From Pet Pedicures to Plant Feeders, a World of Offerings on Display

22 April 2009 - With exhibitors from 37 countries and regions taking part, this year's HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair features a world of houseware products. This year, the emphasis is on eco-friendliness and pet supplies.

The fair, which continues through Thursday, 23 April, features a wide variety of products employing recycled or organic materials, as well as environmental protection and energy-saving concepts. And, as the fair reveals, pet supply products are in great demand these days. A few of the many novel products in display at the fair include:

  Swiss home appliance company Bamix invites brand spokesman Yeung Koon Yat, of "Ah Yat Abalone" fame, to a product launch demonstrating its latest mixer's ability to make almond milk tea, a traditional Cantonese beverage. The mixer is produced in 10 colours.   The Dynamic Power Standing Lamp (left), which uses energy from dynamic power, is a Bio-Home Product Design Project, run jointly by Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Bunhoi Group. By cycling for 10 minutes, a user can generate enough electricity to light the bulb for one hour, achieving health and environmental protection at the same time.   The Solar Plant Feeder, another PolyU design, uses solar energy to drive a water pump inside a plant pot. The product evenly dispenses water and nutrients to plants, resulting in healthier growth
