16 January 2012 – Some 1,900 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions are taking part in the HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong, which opened today and continue through 19 January at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter, the largest event of its kind in Asia, and World Boutique, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, welcome more than 110 buying missions representing over 5,300 buyers from 43 countries and regions. New participants include Denmark, Jordan, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates.
Together, the fairs are staging 20 fashion shows, including signature events Fashion Extravaganza and the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers Contest. There are also catwalk shows spotlighting such exhibitors as IKA, Modessa and Tattoo from Hong Kong, Group Pronuptia from France and the BD Somani Institute of Art and Fashion Technology from India.
The Knitwear Innovation & Design Society and the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association present new collections from their members, while the International Fashion Designers’ Show runs throughout the fair period.
Fashion Week highlights this year include three new product zones: Denim Arcade, Handbags Select and Salon of Scarves & Shawls.
The Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza, a World Boutique highlight, takes place this evening. It features four internationally acclaimed designers: Hong Kong’s Hidy Ng, London’s Craig Lawrence, Paris’ Risto Bimbiloski and Shanghai’s Qi Gang. The first Asian face of Dior, Hong Kong supermodel Grace Yu, will be on the catwalk for Hidy Ng’s collection; other designs will be modelled by Bonnie Chen, Mikki Yao, Ana R, Xiao Yi, Edelweiss Cheung, Emma Xie and Jia Jing.
The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers Contest 2012, 17 January, will showcase a new generation of Hong Kong design talent, with Japanese designer Atsuro Tayama as VIP judge and Vincent Fang, Chairman of the HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee, as chief judge. Model Janice Man will parade the finalists’ designs on stage.
