ICMCM to Feature New “Beauty & Fitness” Zone

At a press conference today, MCMIA President Vivien Chou (left) and Executive Committee Chief Executive Vivian Taam Wong announce details of ICMCM 2013, which will run 15-17 August at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
8 August 2013 – About 140 exhibitors and 20 expert speakers will present the latest Chinese medicine and health products, solutions and intelligence at the 12th edition of the International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM), 15-17 August.

Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA), the event will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will be dedicated to trade visitors on the first two days (15-16 August) before welcoming the public on 17 August.

“ICMCM serves as a platform to showcase innovative products and exchange best practices and new ideas,” MCMIA President Vivien Chou said at today’s press conference. “It is also a good networking opportunity for industry leaders, researchers, academics and relevant government bodies.” The association seeks to facilitate the expansion of Chinese medicine into international markets.

Vast Variety
Exhibitors from Canada, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Singapore and Taiwan will gather at this year’s ICMCM, with the mainland’s Shaanxi and Japan’s Sapporo represented by group pavilions for the first time.

New this year is the Beauty & Fitness zone, introduced in response to the growing demand for this product category. The zone will feature health, beauty, toiletry and personal care products and fitness equipment. Other theme zones will include Chinese Medicine, Health Supplement, Healthcare & Therapy, Raw Material, Equipment & Related Services, and Research & Development.

Industry Intelligence
Held concurrently with the trade fair is the ICMCM Conference, 15-16 August, which will carry the theme “The Advanced Research and Development of Chinese Medicine on Cancer Treatment.” It will feature experts from Australia, the mainland, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. They include Cheng Yung-chi, Professor of Pharmacology at the Yale University School of Medicine and Li Daning, Vice Commissioner of China’s State Administration of Tradition Chinese Medicine. Xu Jun, Chief Executive Officer of mainland medicinal herbs supplier China Medico Corporation, will discuss Chinese medicine source management at the CEO Forum and Networking Luncheon on 15 August. Trade visitors are also welcome to attend a 16 August seminar on Chinese medicine certification.

Public Programme
A public forum on Chinese medicine and health will be held 17 August, with practitioners offering tips on using Chinese medicine to improve health and counter the summer heat. The ICMCM will also feature an educational display illustrating ways to promote health with Chinese medicine, including cooking with medicinal herbs, massage and exercise.

Under One Roof
Running concurrently with the ICMCM will be the HKTDC Food Expo (15-19 August) and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Tea Fair (15-17 August). The three fairs will provide a diversity of sourcing and shopping opportunities for trade buyers and consumers alike.
