HKTDC to Launch New Career Starter Scheme
Valuable Work Experience to Help Equip Young People for Careers

22 January 2009 – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will launch a career starter scheme in April to create job opportunities for fresh university graduates and those who have left school. The Career Starter Scheme, announced today by the HKTDC in response to the government's call to preserve employment, will offer participants extensive exposure to a vibrant work situation and valuable on-the-job training experience.

Under the scheme, fresh graduates and those who have left school will undergo a 10-month work placement in the Council's marketing and promotion departments. Their main duties will be to assist in organising various trade promotional activities and research projects.

"We are introducing the scheme in the midst the economic downturn to create additional job opportunities and a fruitful on-the-job learning experience for those who have left school," said KK Ho, Head of Human Resources at the HKTDC. "The scheme will help equip them with business knowledge and a variety of skills, including communication, customer service and teamwork."

Recruitment of the Career Starter Scheme will begin in April. Advertisements will be placed on major recruitment websites and career centres at local universities. Successful applicants are expected to begin work by July.
