HKTDC Supports Government’s New Budget Measures
Three Key Strategies Outlined for Economic Development
Mr Tsang listed the following key strategies on economic development:
- Promoting development of the regional economy and continuing economic integration with the Chinese mainland
- Consolidating Hong Kong's role as a financial, business support and professional services, logistics and tourism hub
- Investing in the future by implementing infrastructure projects
HKTDC Executive Director Fred Lam said that these strategies were pivotal in keeping Hong Kong on the right course to economic recovery. "The HKTDC has been working toward the same goals as the government, and we will continue to play our part in support of the Financial Secretary's strategies," he said.
Mr Lam added that most of the HKTDC's priorities fell within the government's key strategies, particularly in areas such as economic integration with the mainland, and promoting Hong Kong's role as Asia's international financial centre and a premium hub for business support, professional services and logistics.
"With its fast-growing domestic consumption, the mainland is now a huge domestic market for Hong Kong products and services, apart from being a production base for export. One of the Council's priorities in the coming year is to help Hong Kong companies develop domestic sales in the mainland, as well as to promote various service industries there," Mr Lam said.
Mr Lam said he was pleased to hear that the government would also step up support for the MICE industry. "As mentioned in the budget speech, the expansion project at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) will be completed on time in April to accommodate long-waiting exhibitors during this peak-season period for international trade fairs," Mr Lam said.
"The expanded HKCEC will strengthen Hong Kong's position as the premium sourcing hub in Asia because, with the extra space available, as many as five HKTDC trade fairs will have the potential to become the world's largest fairs of their kind," he added.
