HKTDC 2011/12 Annual Report Tabled in Legco
Targeted Programmes and Events to Help SMEs Succeed

4 July 2012 The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) remains focused on helping Hong Kong succeed in a difficult global environment by promoting emerging market opportunities while maintaining relations with mature economies, said HKTDC Chairman Jack So, in the Council’s annual report for the past fiscal year. The report was tabled today in the Legislative Council.

"Our emphasis is to support our small and medium-sized enterprises, which represent about 98 per cent of Hong Kong’s companies and employ more than 1.2 million people, nearly half of the private sector’s workforce," said Mr So in the report, acknowledging support from the Hong Kong SAR Government and the city’s trade and business associations.

Think Asia, Think Hong Kong
Mr So sees opportunities for Hong Kong’s business services sector, given pivotal shifts in the global economy and Asia’s growing role. To promote Hong Kong as Asia’s central business central district, the HKTDC last September organised "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong," the largest Hong Kong promotional campaign ever launched in the United Kingdom.

HKTDC Executive Director Fred Lam said the annual report documented the Council’s initiatives, this past year, in helping Hong Kong companies tap emerging market opportunities and connect with potential business partners. They reflect, said Mr Lam, "our efforts in promoting Hong Kong trade, both at home and abroad."

An online, interactive version of the 2011/12 annual report is also being produced. It will feature videos, multimedia graphics and other interactive features. The report will be available shortly, at: http://www.hktdc.com/annualreport2012/
