Green Technology a Major Theme at World Business Summit
ICC Chief Victor Fung Speaks to HKTDC before 30 June Event
27 May 2010 – Green technology and sustainability will be some of the main topics of discussion at the ICC World Business Summit 2010 to be held in Hong Kong on 30 June, according to veteran businessman and International Chamber of Commerce Chairman Dr Victor Fung.
“Whether you participate directly in the green technology sector or not, I think the consumer worldwide will be focusing on this aspect,” explained Dr Fung, who is also Chairman of the Hong Kong-based Li & Fung Group. “If your consumers focus on this, you’d better focus on this and make this part of your planning and business decision making.”
The World Business Summit, to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, is being organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world’s most representative business organisation.
In a Monday interview for the HKTDC webcast service at www.youtube.com/hktdc, Dr Fung said business leaders will be able to network with their counterparts from around world at the event, and “think about these global issues from an Asian perspective and form an Asian view.”
“If anything, the weight in terms of the global trading environment is shifting towards Asia – to and from Asia and within Asia itself, so I feel this is going to be an even more important part of the Asian businessman’s agenda.”
Dr Fung said the summit will also address the pace of global economic recovery, with issues such as global unemployment rates critical for business leaders to monitor in the coming 12 to 18 months.
“Another aspect I think will also move very quickly is the emergence of e-commerce. I think that will pervade every retailer and there will be new retailers of the B2C variety, and I feel that will be an important part of the landscape that we will have to look at,” said Dr Fung.
