Going Green at Fourth Printing and Packaging Fair
Fair Attracts 240 Exhibitors and Thousands of Buyers
27 April 2009 - The fourth edition of the Hong Kong International Printing and Packaging Fair opened today and continues through 30 April at AsiaWorld-Expo, playing host to 240 exhibitors and thousands of visitors from around the world.
Nearly 2,000 buyers, representing
59 buying missions from 35 countries and regions, were invited to the fair by
the organisers, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the CIEC
Exhibition Company (HK) Ltd. Buyers include printers of all kinds, packaging
specialists, suppliers of consumables and equipment as well as such related
services as pre-press, post-production and design.
Hong Kong is one of the world's major printing centres, making it an ideal location for the fair. Total exports of printed matter from Hong Kong reached US$2.57 billion last year, while Hong Kong exports of packaging materials hit US$3.08 billion in 2008. Of that, more than 55 per cent was destined for the Chinese mainland.
"We're pleased to note that 16 of the top 100 printers in the Chinese mainland are joining the fair. We believe China will be a great destination for the printing industry, and Hong Kong will continue to play a key role as the perfect bridge between the mainland and the rest of the world," said HKTDC Executive Director Fred Lam.
Group pavilions include Shenzhen, Shanghai and first-time pavilion participant Thailand, with 10 exhibitors. A special zone devoted to book printing features 12 exhibitors from the mainland and Hong Kong.
Seminar highlights include "Changing in Adversity, Developing New Business," organised with the Graphics Arts Association of Hong Kong. Topics include "Going Green - The New Direction for Business Development" and "Changing in Adversity - Opportunities Amidst the Global Economic Crisis."
A seminar on the "Latest Trends in Green Printing," organised with The Hong Kong Printers Association, takes place 28 April, covering such topics as "Test Report on Ink-Saving Software" and the "Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008."
This year's printing fair coincides with the Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair, the world's biggest event of its kind. The gift fair opened today at the HKCEC in downtown Wan Chai. A free shuttle service, connecting the gift fair with the printing fair, is available.
