Fashion Event Showcases New Design Talent

A total of 26 members of the "YD Alumni Club" are gathering at the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence today (January 5, 2006) to present their new fashion collections under the theme, "It's Play Time!"

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), the event showcases the talent of a new generation of young designers. They include Baldwin Pui, Sara Law, Hin Lee, Mandy Cheng, Coney Ko, Timbee Lo, Grace Choi, Jaco Wong, Lok Lai Ming, Stephen Shum, Mo Kwok Wah, Yeung Shiu Cheung, Vic Cheung, Tommy Cheung, Ben Yan, Loyg Lee, Pansy Wong, Chen Dao, Kenko Ma, Wilson Lee, Lee Ho, Karine Lee, Jane Ng, Otto Tang, Chow Tan Tan and Harrison Wong.

Drawing inspiration from many sources, their collections of colourful and playful outfits reflect their youthful spirit and personal styles.

All these new stars have participated in the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest in the past and were either finalists or winners. Through the contest, some have gained the attention of local clothing enterprises and have become in-house designers for notable brands. Some have opened their own boutiques to sell their own labels, while others have become image consultants for local artists designing stage costumes for them. All shine in their own ways and together form a strong design force for Hong Kong's fashion industry.

The YD Alumni Club was formed by TDC last year to provide a platform for up-and-coming designers to show off their talents. In addition to today's event, a series of other activities has been organised to present the latest creations of these budding designers. They are also featured in the latest issue of "Style Hong Kong" Magazine, in which they reveal their design philosophies and future aspirations.

By giving young designers more exposure to the industry and the media, TDC hopes to generate more opportunities for them to develop their fashion careers. As the industry moves up the value chain - embracing design and branding so to stay competitive, the need for young creative talents has become more urgent. TDC's initiatives in this regard have ensured a rich pool of fresh talents from which the industry can draw upon.
