Education & Careers Expo Opens Next Week
On-site Recruitment Forum Among Highlights of 21st Expo

10 February 2011 Close to 700 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions will take part in the 21st edition of the HKTDC Education & Careers Expo, which opens 17 February and continues through 20 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Educational opportunities and career advancement are the two main themes of the expo, which is expected to attract students, teachers, job seekers and those considering career change or further education. The expo will launch a Recruitment Forum to facilitate on-site job interviews.

International Education
Expo exhibitors will represent popular educational destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as new players Denmark, Finland, Sweden and South Africa.

Vocational Training Council is returning to the fair this year with its full range of pre-employment and training programmes. The expo will also welcome first-time participants from a number of non-governmental organisations covering continuing education, business start-ups and retraining. They include the Hong Kong Employment Development Service, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, the Hong Kong Playground Association, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Career Options
More than 50 professional bodies, private enterprises, government departments and statutory organisations will take part in the expo’s Careers section. They will present information about prospects in a variety of professions, including insurance, accounting, beauty and hairstyling, real estate, surveying, aircraft engineering, logistics, information technology and wedding planning.

The police, fire services, customs & excise, immigration and correctional services will also take part.

Recruitment Forum
The expo will offer about 1,000 job openings. At the new Recruitment Forum, the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be recruiting for full-time and part-time positions in the betting and membership services over the fair’s first two days, while 19 February will be recruitment day for Cathay Pacific Airways. Along with seminars on a customer service career with Cathay Pacific, walk-in interviews for customer service officers will be arranged.

Seminars and Workshops
About 60 seminars and workshops spotlighting a wide variety of educational programmes will be held during the fair period. Industry leaders have been invited to share their success stories, while language and job market experts will provide practical tips in areas such as resume writing, interviewing techniques and image building.

Creative professionals will also be on hand, including composer and music producer Mark Lui, singer and songwriter Louis Cheung, film directors Lawrence Lau and Kenneth Bi, and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong, Director of Baptist University’s Academy of Film.

Training Programmes
The expo’s Creative Education zone will include a number of cultural and creative institutions. They will spotlight training programmes in music, design, advertising, photography, animation, film production and more. Course highlights will range from piloting and sailing to military-inspired leadership training.

More and more overseas educational institutions have established branches in the region, or are affiliated with mainland counterparts, to promote academic and cultural exchange. Some will be exhibiting at the expo, including the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology – The Sino-British College, the University of Nottingham Ningbo, Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and Upper Iowa University (Hong Kong).

Regional Hub
As the fair’s organiser, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has invited students from more than 100 universities, tertiary institutions and high schools in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau to explore educational opportunities in Hong Kong.
