13 April 2012 - HSBC and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) today announced a collaboration to connect companies from Hong Kong and overseas to international business opportunities.

The collaboration covers three areas: enriching global market intelligence through the “International Markets” webpage on hktdc.com (www.hktdc.com/International-Markets); supporting HKTDC trade missions to facilitate international business development and having HSBC’s presence at select international trade fairs throughout the year to provide advice to visiting companies.

International Network
Albert Chan, HSBC’s Head of Commercial Banking Hong Kong, said: “HSBC and HKTDC share a common goal – to support companies as they trade and grow internationally. Our primary focus is to connect customers to opportunities, both in Hong Kong and overseas. This collaboration will enable HSBC to reach out to a large community of companies who are looking for expert advice and information on conducting business abroad. Over the past two years, we saw double digit growth in our number of international customers, which currently account for almost a third of our business customers. With more than 145 years experience in supporting businesses as they trade across the region, we can draw from our extensive expertise and international network to help companies achieve their global ambitions.”

Benjamin Chau, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, said: “We are dedicated to promoting trade by connecting millions of international buyers and sellers through our trade fairs, online marketplace and product magazines. This collaboration will provide traders with the latest global market intelligence and practical business news from HKTDC and HSBC's worldwide research professionals, helping companies devise their business strategies more effectively.”

Market Intelligence Hub
The International Markets webpage is a core composition of the HKTDC's online marketplace (www.hktdc.com) which provides the latest global market intelligence to businesses looking to explore, or expand into, other markets. Contributed by the HKTDC Research team and its global network, the webpage covers emerging business trends and opportunities, analyses on trade issues, market profiles, trade regulations and statistics. With HSBC’s collaboration, the webpage was enriched last month and it now contains the latest global trade trends, various market indices, country guides, informative videos and trade articles from HSBC experts.

In addition to providing easy access to a wide spectrum of business information, hktdc.com facilitates business connections by providing access to more than 1.2 million registered buyers to source from 120,000 suppliers from Hong Kong, mainland China and beyond.

Expert Advice
HSBC business experts will be available at a number of HKTDC’s trade fairs, including the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), which opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Located at the hktdc.com Oasis area in the fairground, HSBC’s business experts will offer visitors advice on doing business in Hong Kong and overseas.

Business Missions
HSBC will support a number of HKTDC business missions throughout 2012, leveraging its international network to advise mission delegations on the challenges and opportunities of doing business in the missions’ targeted countries and regions.
