Asia’s Largest Lighting Fair Sets New Exhibitor Record
New Hall of Aurora Features More than 300 International Brands
27 October 2009 – The HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) opened today with a record 1,788 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions. The largest exhibition of its kind in Asia and the second-biggest in the world continues through 30 October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in downtown Hong Kong.
“The fair benefits from the additional 20,000 square metres of space available with the opening, earlier this year, of the HKCEC expansion,” said Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Assistant Executive Director Raymond Yip. “And a HK$120 million assistance package helps exhibitors and trade buyers attend HKTDC trade fairs during the current financial turmoil.”
Major exhibit categories at this year’s fair range from LED lighting, commercial and household lighting to green lighting, outdoor lighting, and lighting management, design and technology.
The fair welcomes first-time exhibitors from Brazil, Hungary, New Zealand and Poland, and features a new zone called Hall of Aurora.
Hall of Aurora
Taking its name from the ancient Roman goddess of dawn, the Hall of Aurora showcases more than 300 quality brands from 23 countries and regions. Among the brand names on display: AAG STUCCHI, Bright, Citizen, CREE, MEGAMAN, Neo-Neon, Osram, Philips, Royal Doulton, Searchlight International and Wever & Ducré.
The LED Lighting Zone has attracted 440 exhibitors offering a range of LED lighting products. Companies from Belize, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom are taking part in the zone.
The fair’s Green Lighting Zone focuses on energy-efficient lamps and control gears, as well as non-conventional reflectors and external electrical devices to reduce voltage.
The fair also offers a wealth of timely seminars. These include “Green Lighting Technology – CCFL” (27 Oct) and “LED Lighting – Applications and Standardization”(29 Oct), industry seminars focusing on lower-energy consumption and long-life lighting. Tomorrow morning (28 Oct), Dr Bernhard Stapp, Vice President of Solid State Lighting, OSRAM GmbH, leads a seminar on “Innovations and New Applications in Solid State Lighting”. In the afternoon, at “The Art of Lighting Design - Chemistry Between Aesthetics and Green Technology” seminar, Markus Helle, Publisher of Highlight, Germany’s leading lighting-industry magazine, will speak.
The winning pieces and finalists in the third Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition are on display in the Hall 1A-B Concourse throughout the fair period. They will also be shown at the HKCEC Design Gallery, 1-30 November.
