The "2006 CFO Forum & Hong Kong Financial Services Mini-Expo", organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) opens today (December 5) at the Hyatt Regency Hangzhou. The organiser has invited Kevin Ho, JP, Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services) of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the opening keynote speaker. Besides, Kunho Cho, Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking Division, Asia Pacific, Lehman Brothers, and Xu Shaochun, Chairman and CEO of Kingdee International Software Group Company Limited are also keynote speakers of the Forum.

The success of the first and second CFO Forum held in Shanghai in 2004 and 05 has encouraged more enterprises from the Yangtze River Delta to seek listing in Hong Kong. With the continuous economic development of the Zhejiang region and further implementation of Cepa, it is expected that the financial cooperation between Hong Kong and Zhejiang will be more frequent than ever. That is why the Forum is staged at Hangzhou this year. It has attracted an attendance of over 450 corporate leaders and CFOs.

Kevin Ho, Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services) said: "Hong Kong has a pool of experienced financial experts with international exposure and professional qualifications. They include investment bankers, fund managers, accountants and venture capital experts who are familiar with the operations and regulatory systems of international financial markets, as well as their accounting standards. They are most well-equipped to serve the needs of mainland enterprises."

In his opening remarks, Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of TDC said: "TDC organises this CFO Forum to help Zhejiang enterprises gain more in-depth knowledge about the financial services available in Hong Kong, and to facilitate exchange between the two places."

As a major international financial hub in the Asia-Pacific, Hong Kong can provide mainland enterprises with a diverse choice of financial services ranging from fundraising, treasury markets services, merger and acquisition, risk management to overseas expansion, etc. These world-class services make Hong Kong the ideal platform for mainland enterprises in "going out". This year's forum is tailored according to the specific needs of private enterprises in Zhejiang. Representatives of renowned Chinese enterprises including New Century Tourism Group, China Rare Earth, UT Starcom (China), JF Household Furnishing and COSCO Pacific share with participants their experience in using Hong Kong's financial services in expanding their business and raising their standard of corporate governance.

This year's forum is sponsored by Lehman Brothers and Hang Seng Bank, and a number of renowned corporate leaders and financial practitioners from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland are speaking at the forum. Prominent speakers include Lawrence Fok, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Alexa Lam, Executive Director, Intermediaries and Investment Products Division, Securities and Futures Commission, Choi Yiu Kwan, JP, Chairman of Treasury Markets Association and Deputy Chief Executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Jamie Paton, Partner, Managing Director and Co-Head, Asia, 3i Asia Pacific plc, William Timothy Addison, Managing Director and CFO of Shui On Land Limited, Peter Wong, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Taifook Securities Group Limited and Chairman of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, etc. Together they speak on the latest financial market issues that are of interest to the Zhejiang audience.

The TDC has been actively promoting trade and business cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland. The CFO Forum is one of its anchor events in promoting Hong Kong's financial services to the mainland enterprises.
