13th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market Opens
More than 500 Exhibitors at Asia’s Major Entertainment Industry Market
23 March 2009 – The Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART), Asia's major market for the global entertainment industry, opened today and continues through 26 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
More than 500 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions are showcasing the latest film and TV productions, digital entertainment technology, film locations and post-production services to buyers and visitors from all over the world, enhancing Hong Kong's role as Asia's production and distribution centre for the entertainment industry.
Rita Lau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR, visited a number of Hong Kong film companies and overseas delegations at FILMART today. "FILMART is the most important trade platform for Asia's entertainment industry, attracting local and overseas producers, distributors, investors and other industry representatives," Ms Lau said. "FILMART helps professionals expand their markets and encourages cross-media and cross-industry cooperation."
This year's FILMART features a variety of themes and pavilions, including TV World, Animation & Digital Entertainment World, Locations World and the Equipment & Post-production Services Pavilion. International forums and seminars, daily screenings and a variety of networking events have also been arranged to help buyers source content and discuss co-production possibilities and other industry opportunities.
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), FILMART is one of the founding events of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong. The fifth Entertainment Expo Opening Ceremony, followed by the Asian Film Awards Presentation Ceremony, begins at 8pm this evening in the Grand Hall of the HKCEC.
